第一節(jié)
Text 1
M: Was that the telephone ringing?
W: I didn’t hear anything. Sometimes when the windows are open, you can hear the neighbors’ phone.
M: Well, I’m expecting an important phone call, and I don’t want to miss it.
Text 2
M: Bob is playing computer games again!
W: Really? We have tried to talk him out of it several times.
M: He is really a hard nut!
Text 3
M: Finally. I’ve finished my paper. Can you check it before I hand it in?
W: Sure. Let’s take a look, Sweetie. Oh, it’s terrific! I can tell you worked hard on it.
M: Thanks. I really did. I just hope my teacher agrees.
Text 4
M: Mom. I’m too hungry. Where is my apple pie?
W: I have ordered it, but it isn’t ready yet. I’ll ask the waiter. Please have a little patience, OK?
Text 5
W: Oh, Peter, how much do you pay for electricity and telephone service a month?
M: My electricity bill is 50 dollars and the telephone bill is about 30 dollars.
W: How about your transportation fare?
M: 40 dollars.
第二節(jié)
Text 6
W: Good morning. Can I help you?
M: Good morning. I’d like to make a reservation to Guangzhou for August 2.
W: Just a moment, please. I’m sorry, sir. There is no ticket available on that day. But we have flights for Guangzhou the next day.
M: May I inquire about the departure time?
W: A 9:15 flight in the morning and a 14:00 flight in the afternoon.
M: When will the plane reach for the morning flight?
W: At 13:15.
M: OK. I’d like to book a ticket for this one.
W: All right, sir. Please make a phone call to reconfirm your ticket no later than two days before the flight; otherwise, your reservation will automatically be canceled.
M: OK. I got it.
Text 7
W: John, you look pale. What happened?
M: I stayed up last night.
W: Did you have something on your mind? You look so concerned! Maybe I can help you!
M: Well, I’m under a lot of pressure. My manager is very pushy. He assigned me two projects. Now the deadlines are near but I have finished neither of them.
W: Is there anything I can do for you?
M: Well, I guess no one can help me but myself. For the moment, I just need someone to talk to so that I can relieve my stress.
W: I know your feeling. Take it easy and say something to me if you like.
M: Oh, you are so kind. Thank you!
W: Not at all!
Text 8
M: What kind of place shall we rent?
W: It should be close to the university. Neither of us is good at getting up in the mornings and the closer it is, the later we can get up.
M: Absolutely. That’s the most important thing to take into consideration. I’m not too worried about the size of the flat.
W: Neither am I. So a small place is OK, but we’ll get a bigger one if it’s not expensive. Do you mind if it’s in a noisy area?
M: I don’t mind. I’m not a light sleeper, but quieter is better since we have to study at home.
W: Good point. OK, let’s go and see whether we can find one.
M: Yes, if we’re lucky we’ll find something in the next few days. I think you had a good idea to start flat hunting early.
W: How much do you think the rent will be? We can find some information from the advertisements on newspaper.
M: I asked a few people who are already living in places near the university and they said it would cost about one hundred pounds a month.
W: That sounds ideal. Let’s begin our hunting now, OK?
M: OK. Let’s go.
Text 9
M: Alice, have you been to San Francisco?
W: Yes. When I was twelve years old I went there with my family. I lived there for a long time, almost thirteen years.
M: Great. You know, I’m from San Francisco so what do you think?
W: I think it is a very beautiful city. There are so many nice houses in these little winding streets, you know, going up the hills and down the hills, and you get the old, the historical trams.
M: Right, exactly.
W: The Golden Gate Bridge is beautiful of course.
M: Yeah, actually I think the Bridge is the most amazing. I mean, even people living there think it’s just an amazing thing to cross. It’s nice. But one problem is that it’s really expensive.
W: Well, thankfully I went there as a child so my parents paid for everything, and I didn’t have to worry about that.
M: Right.
W: If I went there now, I mean, probably I would be worried about that, yeah.

Hello everyone. Welcome to Language International Center. Could you please turn to Page Seven? Now, you see that lessons begin here every weekday at 9:00 a.m. The first class every Monday is grammar practice, followed by a visit to the language laboratory. After a break you have a lesson of speaking skills. Tuesday morning begins with reading skills and after the break, vocabulary development. In the afternoon you’ll go to the library, where you can read, watch a video or practice grammar. On Wednesday morning you have listening skills, and then what we call current affairs. You’ll listen to the news on the radio and discuss what’s going on. After the break it’s another lesson of speaking skills. Thursday morning begins with pronunciation, then a special “Life in Britain” class. I’m sure you will learn more about your life here in Britain besides what you have learned about it in your own country like China or Japan. After the break is grammar practice once again. Finally on Friday morning is the first lesson you will practice writing skills, followed by a lesson in the computer room. After the break is the weekly review period, where your teacher will help with any problems you may have. Oh, don’t forget you can study on your own in the library every weekday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. as well, if you wish! Thank you.
